Viineet Kumar Siingh Roles Throughout The Years

Viineet Kumar Siingh has arrived. And we say that after his back to back scene-stealing performances in his latest releases Chhaava and Superboys of Malegaon. The actor has been garnering high praises for his characters Kavi Kalash and Farogh, in Laxman Utekar and Reema Kagti’s directorials, respectively. And while the actor basks in the glory of his latest release Superboys of Malegaon’s success, here are a couple of other films that Viineet did, that will prove to you that he never stopped growing as an actor.

Mukkabaaz

Mukkabaaz is one film that will always remain close to Viineet’s heart for so many reasons. It was THE movie that established him after 17 years in Bollywood, a movie he wrote alongside his sister Mukti, and waited for two whole years before Anurag Kashyap agreed to make the movie and also cast Viineet in it. The actor also trained for more than a year to become a boxer in real life. The movie won accolades at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival and the 2017 MAMI Film Festival, where it received a standing ovation. The movie also put Viineet Kumar Siingh on the map as an actor to watch out for.

Gangs of Wasseypur 1 and 2

Viineet essayed Danish Khan, the son of Sardar and Nagma in Anurag Kashyap’s dark comedy. In fact, Danish’s character had a grey undertone to it, but he was immensely loved by the audience. Viineet in an interview had even called his role in Gangs of Wasseypur a challenging yet rewarding experience.

Gold

Gold saw Viineet play a significant character in India’s sports history – Imtiaz Ali Shah who was a key part of (then British India) Indian hockey team’s victory over Germany in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Tapan (Akshay Kumar) and Imtiaz team up and create a new Indian hockey team to re-create history at 1948 Summer Olympics as a free country. Viineet’s portrayal of Imtiaz and the struggles that he had to go through, won a lot of praises, especially for bringing out the emotions of sports persons during a difficult time.

Ugly

Viineet played Chaitanya in Anurag Kahsyap’s dark thriller, that brought to the fore the ‘Ugly’ and greedy side of human beings. And the movie opened to critical acclaim at Cannes Film Festival. In fact, Viineet played the role of a struggling actor and casting director in the movie, but his complexly-layered portrayal of Chaitanya received special mentions in reviews.

Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl

Viineet played hard-headed sexist Flight Commander Dileep Singh, Gunjan’s superior officer and instructor who made life hard for her at the academy. He is seen often discouraging her, and he played the part of a man with a narrow-minded mindset perfectly, which the movie aimed to call out repeatedly.

Chhaava

Chhaava saw Viineet deliver one of his career-best performances as Kavi Kalash, a poet and a warrior in the court of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. He stood by his king from the beginning till the very end, right before he was executed. The actor is currently basking in the praises being showered upon him for his performance in the periodical movie.

Superboys of Malegaon

Another career-defining performance delivered by Viineet, the Reema Kagti directorial saw the actor play Farogh, a passionate writer. The actor perfectly portrayed the struggles of writers who seldom receive due or even any credit for their pen-man ship. With an iconic line to his credit, “Writer baap hota hai,” Viineet has now become a performer to be reckoned with in the industry.

Now that we have established that Viineet has the range that very few actors in Bollywood possess, he is all set to explore more with his upcoming movie Jaat, which is set for a tentative April 2025 release. And with a couple of other projects that are in the works for the actor, we have not seen the last of Viineet Kumar Siingh yet on the big screen.
